Mr. Liang developed the habit of keeping a diary early in his life, and the surviving diaries span from 1932 to 1981, having endured numerous hardships, including the "confiscation of property," to be preserved. The diaries plainly record the author's actions, experiences, and inner reflections over half a century: his early involvement in rural reconstruction, inspections behind enemy lines during the War of Resistance, mediating disputes between the Nationalist and Communist parties, retreating to Mount Jinyun for Buddhist practice, touring urban and rural areas after liberation to observe new changes and land reform, suffering humiliation during the "confiscation of property," participating in political study and debates, and persistently engaging in writing and self-cultivation throughout. This volume presents Liang Shuming's diaries as a complete standalone edition.
