Vera, a Polish Jew, is very young when the Second World War breaks out. She is sent to the country where her parents think she has a better chance of survival. There she learns about hunger, poverty and cruelty. The woman who takes her in throws dead rats in her face and gives her nothing to eat. This period of her life gives her furious and irrepressible urge to live.
After the war she goes back to her parents and becomes a street child in Paris, leader of a gang. She puts her clan together and lays down its laws. Her father signs her up to the young Communists and she becomes a committed militant, but is thrown out because she is deemed too "friendly" with boys. She meets Gaby who introduces her to the theatre and, in 1955, includes her as an actress in the troupe. And Claude Berri. From walk-on parts to key roles, she becomes an indisputable pillar of the acting world.
She works with Fran ois Truffaut, becomes a friend of Jacques Demy, produces the films of Maurice Pialat and Claude Sautet... We are given and insight into the trials and tribulations of these great names in film, but also into Vera's own tenacity, the risks she had the courage to take, the terrible heartache she endured and her huge tenderness for people she met and immediately decided to love.

V ra Belmont is an actress, producer and director. She has produced, amongst others, Marcel Carn 's Les jeunes loups, Maurice Pialat's L'enfance nue, Claude Lanzmanns' Pourquoi Isra l, Yves Boisset's Un Cond , Robin Davis's La guerre des polices and Jean-Jaques Annaud's La guerre du feu. She directed Les prisonniers de Mao, Rouge baiser, Milena, Marquise and Survivre avec les loups.

Anne-Marie Philipe is a comedian. She has also written a series of children's books: Danseur, petit cheval magique.
