Great for minority studies

Lewis Hayden, an escaped slave, became the lifeline for countless human beings desperately trying to leave bondage and make a new life. He was first a passenger on the Undergound Railroad, then a fugitive, and next a spokesman on behalf of the American Antislave Society.Author, Joel Strangis, making excellent use of research interspersed with quotes, photographs and documents, builds a dramatic case for honoring this little known hero who let his actions speak louder than his words. With 141 pages of text, Lewis Hayden is an easy read for teenagers and adults.
