Level of knowledge about peri-implantitis

Treatment with dental implants has increased rapidly worldwide, but it should be noted that consequently, cases of peri-implant diseases such as peri-implantitis are increasing; therefore, the importance of knowledge of these diseases by professionals who will be closely related to this pathology, who are specialists in periodontics and implants, should be valued, so that they are trained to prevent, diagnose and treat peri-implantitis. The replacement of missing teeth with dental implants is nowadays a routine and highly developed treatment. Lekholm, Astrand and Kim have demonstrated high survival rates of implants in function, ranging from 90 % to 95 % over a period of up to 20 years of follow-up. But there are also biological complications related to dental implants, which nowadays have been increasing, the most important complication being peri-implantitis.
