I've loved the world of Holmes since I was a kid myself. While always understanding the concepts of fantasy and reality my mind tends towards the "Watsonian" attitude. I love justifying how things work in universe instead of thinking just "the writer decided that".
This book celebrates a wonderful cross-section of that. Many of the letters either believe Holmes could live over a century, or at least playfully wink at the idea. From kids asking for a simple reply and autograph to grown men and women asking for help with cases, there is a fun game to be had in this book trying to decide who is enjoying writing a letter to The Detective and who truly believes Holmes & Watson are still solving the unsolvable.

Year in and year out, the letters flood in to number 221B Baker Street, which is now home of the Abbey National Building Society. Some are naive, others envious, pleading and peremptory, and some offer intelligent criticisms. All of them testify to an undying curiosity in Conan Doyle's great creation. Every single one receives an answer from Mr Holmes' secretary. Abbey National is proud to provide this service for the Great Detective and happy to collaborate in the compilation of this anthology. Richard Lancelyn Green has chosen a representative selection and supplies fascinating answers to many of the queries. You will find this book to be both amusing and delightful.
