Letters to Mark is a foray into the wilderness of modern parish life. The letters are addressed to a young cleric who is moving along the path toward a more mature understanding of church operations. For those who embark on the sacred journey of ministry, the issues represented come from real situations. They describe many universal issues that occur whether or not you are wearing a round collar. Although Letters to Mark is written as a guide for those who begin work in a parish, it also gives the lay person a rare insight into the problems and opportunities that face parish leadership. The letters are designed as a supplement to a Seminary course in pastoral theology and include practical suggestions on issues that appear in the life of newly ordained clergy. They are written from a mentor's perspective, from one who is concerned with management issues as well as spiritual direction. The author is a well-seasoned Episcopal priest who has had the privilege of working with a number of newly ordained clergy. He has served parishes from New York and Connecticut to the deserts of Arizona and California. Included were parishes from the inner city to suburbia, from missions to central city. Dr. Douglas is the author of three books and has been a guest faculty and scholar in residence at three seminaries.
