a riveting account of one soldier's WWII experience.

This book provides the reader with a first-hand, contemporaneous account (not 50 year old recollections) of the conditions during one of our most bloody engagements of WWII. Further, the reader gets to absorb the emotion, doubt, fear, bravery of a true war hero as he lives it through almost daily letters he writes to his sweetheart back home. This book is the real deal!!! A tremendous read for anyone who enjoys heroism,love,happy endings etc.

It was an emotional experience to share these letters.

I was fascinated by this book and couldn't put it down. It was an emotional experience to share in the intimacy of these letters, as a young Marine lieutenant struggles with his passion for Ginny back home and for survival in combat. The detailed descriptions of living conditions and front line fighting brought forth feelings of great sorrow for this young man and others I know that lived through similar experiences. It was a fast read with a truly happy ending that is good for the soul.
