This book is every bit as much for the parent to read as for the young man or woman venturing out into the world. I read this book from a parent's perspective and it was a reminder to me that as I run helter skelter through my daily routine, my children may have no idea what my core values are. They may infer them from my reaction to the news or the way I treat animals, but have I really TOLD my children what is important to me? This book is a funny, quirky, honest, from the heart voice of a father telling his son what matters to him most. It was helpful to see how one father tackled this issue and to use the book as a guide for my own challenge. As I read each section, I had to ask myself what matters to me, and what I should tell my children. Letters From Home is organized in such a fashion that you can read for 5 minutes or 3 hours, and you get something out of it each time. It is also laid out so that you can read the parts and pieces that interest you the most, and you don't have to read in any particular order. This will be appealing to teenagers who want to read something besides the cereal box in the morning, but don't have time for much else. This book makes a perfect graduation or congratulations gift or a gift for those impossible to shop for teens. Just giving the book to wary teens is a message from you to them, even if you never get around to telling them all that you believe in. At least they'll know that Hollywood's values are actually different from your own. Fortunately, teens are usually curious enough to crack the cover, and the short sections can grab their interest before their attention span fails them. Headers like "Jungle, Nerd, K.I.S.S., and Titanic" don't hurt either.

This is a quick read and very well written easy to understand book for everyone. Trick is to get people to read what it says and take it to heart, young and old. The most of us who really need the simple wisdom this book offers don't realize we need it. And were never offered a lot of it. I highly recommend this book to all ages.
