To a Pennsylvania farm girl, newly graduated from college in 1951, an assignment as a short-term missionary teacher in Egypt meant three years of separation from everything familiar and total commitment to adventure under God's care. Her elderly "mission-minded" parents supported her decision, asking her to share her new life through letters (the sole means of communication available). Accordingly, she wrote copious accounts of her life in Egypt sharing the amazement of God's leading. When she met a young agricultural volunteer from Ohio her life took on a new dimension. She extended her tour to a fourth year and when she returned to the U.S.A. in 1955, it was as a married woman presenting her parents with a new son-in-law. Her mother had carefully preserved her letters which form the core of this book.
