Wonderful and Heartwarming!

Memories! This is a wonderful book. We lived this book: Gary Smith was our chaplain during his years in the Netherlands. He has warmed my heart with many happy memories, and gives such a wonderful picture of the Dutch. He reminds you to enjoy life's blessings, small and large.

Lessons For Your Heart

Captivating, funny, poignant, Gary's book will hook you in the Introduction! I alternately laughed out loud and was teary-eyed with the adventures and misadventures of this totally real chaplain/husband/father/author. Read this book and give it to all the people you love!

Everyone's Story

I couldn't wait to get my copy of Letters from Boerdonk. I have read many of the "great" christian authors and Gary Smith ranks with these. He writes in a very accessible way. No matter who you are or what your background Gary's stories of everyday life will touch you. His gentle self mocking humor will warm you to your toes. These are the new parables for our time. Once you have read this book you will want to buy one for everyone you know.

Smiles through the tears

I recently lost my husband to lung cancer. I feel so blessed that this was the first book I read following his death. Through all my tears, Gary Layne Smith's words reassured me that a life lived with love in the home, blesses everyone and everything in our lives. Gary has touched so many lives with his love of God, family, and friends. This book will just spread that love. So, for putting a smile on my face, and helping me to once more hear the song in my heart, I thank you Gary Layne Smith for sharing your Letters from Boerdonk.

Stories from the heart

I read Letters from Boerdonk immediately after I received it. At first glance it appears as a pleasant recounting of the author's life in a quaint village in the Netherlands. In the meat of the story are tales of real people with real thoughts and feelings that will resonate with a variety of readers. The village of Boerdonk could be any city. The people of Boerdonk come alive as Gary Smith weaves a tale around the village church's bells. He invites the reader to come and be privy to the Smith family's struggles and joys as they become part of an alien culture and find a place in the heart of Boerdonk. It is my story and your story told with joy and humor. I loved the book and would recommend it to anyone who likes a good tale told without being "preachy". Read it and "come home" to Boerdonk.
