I first read this book as a 11-12 year old and recently re-read it at age 41. Good lessons on how to treat others, friendships, and morals. I highly recommend for your child.
A realistic look into high school friendships

I read this in high school and it really connected with what I'd been going through. All the questioning, tension, and consequences when you outgrow old friends. Publisher's Weekly called it "A hard-hitting portrait of teenagers in crisis." It's probably best for guys, since that's who it focuses on. Highly recommended.
Letter Perfect

My Summary: This book is about three boys, Chad, B.J. and Toad. They plan little crimes for practice. If they succeed in the practice, they will plan a big crime. Though originally they were not supposed to actually carry out the crime. They leave letters anonymously to their hated teacher MR. Patterson. The letters are demands for money . If he does not give them the money, they will give a letter to the school board sent from one of his Navy friends. It says that he cracks under pressure and he had a military background. This little joke is getting bigger and bigger. They are ruining this poor man's life and are committing some serious crimes. Will these kids get caught? What will the teacher do about it? Read this book to find out. It is a pretty good book. Some language may not be appropriate for young readers.
Great Pre-Teen read

I read this book when I was 11 years old. I'm 27 now. It stuck with me for so many years that I read it again as an adult.Although the story might be a bit dated for the 90's, the author conveys a sense of morality, consequences and compassion. A great read for pre teens!
Great book, late 12's-adult

This is a great book about 3 bored kids who want to put some excitement into their lives. They start doing little crimes, which get bigger, and bigger and bigger . . . Now it's way over their heads. The person who tells the story, who is one of the trio, isn't sure he likes whats going on. What would you do if you had to chose between friends, and what might ruin you forever.
