This story provides you insight into the Juvenile Detention Center. The author had first hand experiences working with the boys, and the many circumstances that occurred during her employment working with the juveniles and at the Juvenile Detention Center. She learned so much about how they lived and what experiences they encountered in their lives. The boys wrote poetry that expressed their deepest thoughts and this poetry is contained within the book. The author expresses, "We can not imagine what these boys have endured in their lives unless we have walked in their shoes."
