Have you ever wondered why you learned certain things in school? Has your child ever questioned why school is so important? As a teacher, have you ever wondered whether you're just citing information to your students, rather than igniting their desire to learn both inside and outside of the classroom? There is a common thread in education that students tend to question why they have to learn certain things, but loudly proclaiming, "I'll never use that in the REAL world." The current work presents a series of typical lessons and subject matter taught in 5th Grade, including such topics as science, history, literature, and mathematics. After presenting the basic information, in the form of an actual lesson plan and providing sample guides (i.e., worksheet for completing a research project, guide for outlining an essay, etc.), as well as sample exams, then the current work provides a fictional story where a character utilizes the obtained knowledge in the REAL world. It is hoped that the current work will provide teachers with examples of "why" certain things are taught, as well as demonstrating to students that education isn't just a waste of time, as there are applications to the real world.
