This is the story of the transition of having been raised in a charmed lifestyle, continuing into an ideal marriage; a fantasy marriage and to life's harsh reality and ultimately through the perils of addictive behaviors with what unfolded to become a beautiful and appreciative life of growth and moderation. Although Suzy, the main character tried to fulfill her mother's expectations, life's cruel reality hit her over and over until the age of 53 where she found herself homeless for the third time; lost all her finances and possessions and being a widow not once, but twice; was left alone to raise a daughter that had just become a teenager. Through various transitions; an anti bellum lifestyle, addictive behaviors and destructive self prophesying behaviors, the metamorphosis that is necessary in order to appreciate a moderate life are the answers which unfold the nagging question of why. This is far from the fairy tale life Suzy is led to believe is her lot in life. Rather, it is a series of transformations that culminate into gain from loss. As paradoxical as that may sound, it is within Suzy's apparent struggle and losses that she finds a truer meaning in life; not the life of the golden girl, but the maturity that comes after a few greys. Coming out of the extreme highs and lows; the moderate Gray's of life - are something she comes to embrace.
