Meaningful group study

My husband and I facilitate a small group study of people who want to grow as Christ-followers. We found this book to be one of the best studies we ever did with our small group. It gave the members, including ourselves, new understanding about God and his good will toward us, and about the implications of free will on our world. I feel more able to communicate why, when life's circumstances are tough, we can turn toward God for comfort. I see how responsible I am to bring good to those around me because he has created a world where what we do matters, whether it is good or evil that I do. I feel encouraged to see how God will wrest good from any circumstances.

Bringing it all into practice

The Will of God was originally a series of sermons delivered in his church in England during World War II. They were compiled together to form the book. As a work itself, The Will of God is a must read. Laird has done us all a huge favor by compling this workbook to compliment Dr. Lesie Weatherhead's great work. Because of the date that the sermons were originally delivered, they can be a bit dated (although still enjoyable to read and easy to understand). What Laird has done is to compile several modern examples to compliment the text of each sermon. This allows the reader a broad spectrum to see the point of each sermon in several real life type case studies. This really focuses the reader to a much richer understanding of Weatherhead's premises. I would highly recommend this book!

The portion that contains the text of the book as written byDr. Weatherhead is wonderful. I would recommend it to anyoneseeking insights into the will of God. I have used it to help form my theological perspectives and it has been a good source for using his illustrations and developing my own for sermons.

A Workbook that Works!

Rebecca Laird has turned Dr. Weatherhead's masterpiece into a user-friendly work. Though the original book (The Will of God)was certainly easy to read, Laird's working process helps the reader to personally apply the concepts of the Intentional, Circumstantial, and Ultimate Will. I used this as a personal, individual study book. But, after experience in many religious study groups, I believe this well thought-out, understandable, and thought-provoking workbook would be an effective group tool. It lends itself to both quick applications and in-depth growth. I appreciated the growth potential and the non-preachy attitude. Guidance to finding my own answers and positions was much preferable to being molded into a preconceived format. Yes! I recommend it!
