Like reading a Documentary

I have owned this book for several years buying it on sale at one of the major bookstores. This is one of those books I have read three or four times. If you have never been to Euroupe, you will be fascinated to learn about the waterways, rivers, and the Lock System which have been in use for generations. Already, the economics are changing the life of those who work shipping on these rivers as is covered in the book. Much like American farming turning mainly to commercial, so too is this happening to the wonderful "River People" who for generations this has been their way of life. The author has done documentaries in real-life, and does an excellent job with this book. It is highly entertaining and chock-full of many color pictures. Buy this book if you enjoy boating, fixing up old boats, reading about interesting characters, and learning about a unique aspect of European travel and shipping. This would also be an excellent read if you may be planning on renting one of those house boats to vacation on the waterways of Euroupe.
