With more than 16,000 movie reviews, updated and expanded indexes of leading performers, more than 14,000 video-cassette and 8,000 DVD listings, and much more, this is the biggest and best guide in the field.
If you are a movie buff, this book is a must. I've been going to movies for almost eighty years. Recalling all the movies I've seen and liked is much easier with this book.

Leonard Maltin makes every effort to be complete and concise. His love of movies shines through, No, you won't agree with every opinion but he's on track more often than not. An useful tool for watching movies from the video store, pay per view or off of TV. Better than any other movie guide. His brevity on each film will leave you wishing for sometimes but in almost all cases, being brief and to the point is a virtue.

This book is a great all-inclusive compilation of movies ranging from older hard-to-find, to popular pop culture films. Excellent listings, complete with a section on how to search for actors and actresses.
New edition of an old favorite.

It's popular in today's world to complain. So I'll complain some. First, all of his movie ratings don't agree with mine. For instance I think that the Weber musical version of 'The Phantom of the Opera' was the best movie of 2004, and he gives it two and a half stars. 'The Gods Must be Crazy' only got three stars, it should have gotten four. On the other hand, 'The Pirates of the Caribbean' got two and a half stars. That's about right. He did better here than a lot of other critics who seemed to think it great. Oh yes, the type is too small for my tired old eyes. Since I don't want any fewer movies reviewed, make the book bigger. Now for the good parts, 16,000+ entries. That's a lot of movies. The mail order movie suppliers for rare movies seems expanded and brought up to date. And I guess that I've got to say that he has gotten most of the ratings about right. To anyone interested in movies, this is one of those books you can't put down. Other reviewers here have complained about bindry problems. My copy had no errors.

This is far and away the best, least-biased movie review book on the market. It covers more films available on TV and in video rental stores than any other source. If you have this book together with Maltin's "Classic Movie Guide" (which supplements it with older films, such as those shown on Turner Classic Movies & Fox Movie Channel), you have all you need to decide whether to watch, tape or buy a film. I recommend buying the paperbook version because it is revised each year, whereas the "Classic Movie Guide" is expected to be revised only every few years.
