Legend is the story of a young boy named Simon. Simon has had a happy childhood living along the banks of The White River with his loving mother and father. Unfortunately, tragedy strikes the family when Simon's father dies. Simon misses his father terribly. In a effort to comfort her son, Simon's mother tells the boy that his father is in Heaven and he will see him again someday. Simon becomes obsessed with this idea and decides to set out on a journey to find Heaven. Legend is a children/ young preteen aged fantasy. There are lots of stories within the main plot keeping the action fairly constant and interesting. Many important life lessons are also explored within these confines. The characters that Simon meets are extremely varied with differing life experiences and points of view. These characters are simple but still challenge the notion of stereotypes leading readers towards further understanding of different lifestyles and cultures.

Review of Legend By Thea Autry Rodriguez Legend is a delightful tale filled with page after page of adventure. It is a story sure to delight the whole family as they follow along with the lively antics of a special young man named Simon. The story begins with Simon describing his humble but joyful life. Unfortunately, tragedy soon strikes this teen and his real journey begins. Simon plunges into a long search for truth and understanding after he experiences a dream that shakes his very existence. Early on in his quest he is joined by Reuben and Anthony, two young rebel soldiers. The three youths travel through an array of poverty stricken villages in a very troubled country. Even though Simon is quite different from his two friends there is quickly a bond between the three that will surpass the hands of time. From beginning to end this tale provokes deep emotion and gives a clear view of this boy's deep need to fulfill his own prophecy and find his place in a mangled world. Readers will feel the story come to life as they experience Simon's pain, joy and triumph. This book provokes the imagination and provides a gentle nudge back to a special time when we all believed in the unbelievable and let faith carry us forward. Thea Autry Rodriguez has gracefully shared her many talents and provided a lively story that touches the heart and sings to the soul of her readers. She has woven together a colorful array of words to create vivid details and lifelike characters. Storytellers have always held a special place in minds of all and Thea has earned hers with this intriguing novel. I highly recommend this book to all that enjoy the rich flavor of a tale well told.
