The traditional method to attain a law license is to pass a State Bar Exam after completing a nineteen-year journey of twelve (12) years of high school, four (4) years of college (hopefully in Arts and Science, Journalism or Statistics), followed by three (3) years in law school. This is traditional in present society, however in the 1890's Abraham Lincoln became a lawyer by reading law and was a practicing attorney. Could this be duplicated in the 20th Century? Of course not, but this novel is about a young boy who dared to jump from high school to a law degree within present-day law.
