Captain Ippolito's autobiography of his life as an airline pilot is packed with operational and industrial details galore; some funny, some serious. He very successfully weaves descriptive information into the story which gives the book an historical perspective. The enthusiast or student of aviation history should find "Leaving on a Jet Plane" interesting. Easy and fun to read, Ippolito writes in a straight forward matter-of-fact manner that is not self serving or ego driven. He presents himself as a fun loving guy, but one who is very serious about his work and very responsible. He is "the Captain," a good pilot, and a credit to his profession. Still, the reader sees him as a human being making real life personal and professional decisions. The airline industry is changing dramatically, almost on a daily basis. It is good that Captain Ippolito wrote about the industry as he knew it while his experiences are still vivid and his memory fresh. More quickly than many of us former airline pilots wish, our years at the controls are becoming the stuff of history!
