In the early 1980's, I was a mathematician by trade, but the growth potential of computer science was obvious. Therefore, I began exploring many aspects of the field, and one of my areas of interest was the programming language Lisp. One of my colleagues recommended this book, so I read it. I found it to be an excellent primer on the language, one of the best things that it did not do was compare Lisp to any other programming language. In fact, I can find no other language listed in the index. This is an excellent teaching technique; any mention of another language would have dramatically increased the level of confusion. At the time, I was a BASIC hacker, and this was when the term meant someone who wrote a lot of code and the label was a badge of honor. With this book, I was able to step out of by programming restrictions inherent in BASIC and learn to program in the fascinating language of Lisp.
