What I love about Chertok, Hirshfeld, and Rosh's method of teaching art appreciation is their integrated approach. The book comes with full color posters for displaying. As the children gaze on the poster, the teacher reads the biography or the history of the piece, and then asks questions that encourage observation. The book then gives instructions for hands-on-activities. The children learn history, art, and observation techniques. They use their senses - listening, seeing, and doing. Plus, for all you homeschoolers out their with children of different ages - you can do this with all of your children together! This book is an excellent addition to any ancient history unit you may be doing. Other books by the same authors include: Meet the Masterpieces: Strategies, Activities, and Posters to Explore Great Works of Art; Month-by-Month Masterpieces: Explorations of 10 Great Works with Step-by-Step Art Projects.
