Love It!

I absolutely love this book. I am homeschooling my oldest for the first time and needed a little help with organization and ideas and this was perfect. I hightly recommend it. It has GREAT ideas on reinforcing the skills and is easy to modify if you need to move a little quicker or slower or supplement with other workbooks. My son asks every day including weekends if we're having school today and it's in large part to this book helping to give me really fun ideas and making this whole experience fun for him and me. I use this as a framework and supplement and modify as needed. Love it and hightly recommend.

Great Teaching Tool

This is a fantastic book. It lays the curriculum out for you for everyday. there is no question what you need to do. There a 36 complete weeks. Enough for 180 days. THe only thing I wasn't to thrilled about is that it included hoilidays in instruction and I think that should be a seperate matter. We do not celebrate many holidays, but I will be able to use this as a teaching tool for where certain holidays came from. Also, showing that not all people believe the way that we do. It has over 200 books it recommends for reading, or requires for the class that day, so hello, library!

good ideas and guideline

I have found this book to be very helpful and a good guide for planning my weekly lessons. It is a years worth of "lesson plans" (for all subjects: reading, science, social studies, math, etc.). My twin daughters are only 4 but they are taking to the lessons well. I tweek them quite a bit but the book is full of good ideas. I am able to copy the worksheets so they both have one (which allows the worksheets to be used again). Be prepared though....it does require a bit of time and effort to pre-plan lessons ahead of time (buying supplies, getting books from library, etc). I have found it easy to substitute other items from around the house too. I would recommend this book.

Very good place to start!

I have a 4 and 5 year old. I bought this to assist my four year old in learning her letters and basics as well as prepare/supplement my 5 year old for kidergarten. I found the material to be a little elemetary for my 5 year old, he seems to get bored if we do not move quickly, however he does enjoy the various activity ideas in the book. This book seems to be exactly what I was looking for in helping my 4year old though, she is very eager to learn with this as my guide. Two complaints: One, the pages will need to be copies prior to working them. This is not only due to the fact that I am using one book for two children but because they have cut/paste pages on the backs of regular pages and therefore you will have to cut up a perfectly good page on the back to do such an activity. Two, is that there should be a list of recommended items for each week. You need to pre-read the lesson plans for each week well in advance so that you have time to collect items needed (such as books, etc.). I ran into this problem my first week, traveling to the library for reading books, trying to find replacements when those weren't available and purchasing butcher paper for an activity. Overall, this is a great place to start. One other minor complaint is that the entire weeks lesson of science is usually geared toward a season, so if you are not following the typical school schedule (aug-may) your child will be learning about autumn in summer. You will need to adjust some of the the lessons to fit you and your child but as someone very new to homeschooling I am grateful for the planned out lessons and activity ideas. Just wish there was a list or recommended items, such as books, for each week to reduce prep time.
