Education Towards a New Horizon
Central governments in many countries have initiated reforms aimed at enhancing both the
quantity and quality of education. Till the 80 the improvements within the schools
centered on curriculum, textbooks, teacher education, leadership effectiveness, school-centered administration, teaching- learning processes, facilities, funds, and finances. The
present times pose a different requirement so far as schools are concerned to enable them to
deliver meaningful goods to the community they belong to. In the face of rapid changes
in the approach to education and the demands of society, it has become imperative to make the
schools more responsive (flexible) to the needs of their clientele. The assumption is that
if the decisions are made closer to the clientele, better decisions will be made and
greater satisfaction will prevail (Covey, 1990). It is also a proposal for identifying sensitive
areas and decision- making within schools.
