Can A Revision Redo Such Excellence?

Many administration books on early childhood programs exist and continue to emerge, but this nine year old reference is hard to top. It may not have the flashiest pictures or dynmamic, glossy layout of many current books, but it still has what many textbooks fail to include: extreme detail. The most impressive part of Shoemaker's book comes in its simplicity. Even the chapter titles are easy to understand (i.e. Planning, Legal Issues, and Professionalism evoke immediate recognition of the related topics). The text itself is filled with many tables and visual aides to make what is so easy to understand down right pleasurable to read. I still use the chapter on parent education and involvement when I teach those topics in my classes. Just a gentle reminder: it's an older book. Nine years is a quantum leap in early childhood education, so you may need a supplemental text for up-to-date reserach findings and applications. Nevertheless, when it comes to instilling the basics of early childhood educational administration in burgeoning child care directors, I cannot think of a better book....and it's only about [...]. If there is a revision--I've been waiting a decade--, I think it will be hard to improve on this one. A gem:)
