نظرت سامية إلى ساعتها الثانية والنصف. غريب، ليس من عادة نبيل أن يتأخّر من غير أن ينبئها. ما كادت تنهي تأمّلاتها حتى رنّ الجرس. هرعت إلى الباب. كانت سهى.- أوصلتك طانط عزيزة؟سألتها سامية كي تقول شيئاً، ولو سخيفاً، وتتجنّب هواجسها. ثمّ انشغلت بإعداد طعام الفتاة قبل أن تقيس حرارة طارق، ثمّ بسكب صحن حساء لابنها المريض. بعدما أنهى الولدان الأكل، نظرت إلى ساعتها - غير معقول أن يتأخّر نبيل حتّى الرابعة من غير أن ينبئني.واجتاحها غضب على زوجها الغائب. تناولت الهاتف وتلفنت لمكتبه. ردّ صوت أنثوي - ممكن احكي نبيل دقداق؟- من يريده؟- زوجته.ثمّ صمت طويل.Samia looked at her watch: half past two. Strange... it's unlike Nabil to be late without informing her. She had barely said that to herself when the doorbell rang. She rushed to the door. It was Suhah. ""Did aunt Aziza drop you off?"" Samia asked her, trying to say something, even trivial, to avoid her concerns. Then she started preparing food for the girl before checking Tariq's temperature, then pouring him, her sick son, a bowl of soup. After the children finished eating, she looked at her watch and said, ""There's no way Nabil stays late until four o'clock without informing me."" Her blood was boiling towards the absence of her husband. She picked up the phone and dialed his office. A female voice answered. - Can I speak to Nabil Dikdak? - Who's asking? - His wife. Then there was a long silence.
