When a friend recommended this book, he told me that it was too hot for the "church" and it had gone out of print. That was in 1991. Looking back on the past 17 years, I think the book was prophetic in its view of the body of Christ. We have become an ineffective, former pillar of society because we have been focussed on ourselves and our gathering places, rather than on the individuals we each interact with day to day. We were never intended to become an institution, rather, an organism. I found the book to contain the right recipe for creating churches that actually affect the world. I was tired of being a "pew potato" and this book helped change my perspective. It still contains some "religion," but all in all, I think it should be required reading for all Christians, particularly here in America.
