This paper presents research on the interaction between bullets and ceramics, as well as the design, manufacture, and field testing of armor panels made of composite materials with a layered-modular structure containing ceramic components of various configurations (flat, cylindrical, spherical). As a result of research and development, the design characteristics of armor panels that influence their ballistic properties have been identified, among which the configuration and nature of the layered arrangement of ceramic components play a primary role; armor panels have been created capable of providing protection against bullets from an AK assault rifle with a heat-treated steel core (5.45 mm caliber) and an SVD sniper rifle with a plain steel core (7.62 mm caliber), which meets the requirements of Protection Class 4 of GOST R 50744 -95.
