Rick Mason's talk show, Final Confession, is getting ready to shoot a new
episode while a tech crew gets ready to set up. Dr. Joseph Vinton, a therapist
who sexually assaulted his young patients, Scott Fisher (David Krumholtz),
who was eleven years old when the crime was committed but is now fifteen,
and Sarah Fisher, the boy's mother, are all mentioned by Mason as he enters
the restaurant.
Vinton is made fun of by Mason, who points out that he got off easy with the
crimes and served only 18 months for assaulting seven victims. Vinton's public
apology for his misdeeds is followed by an audience member shooting him,
which rapidly puts the play in jeopardy.
A security guy shoots the shooter, and he is then swiftly taken into custody, but
