The last reel before bed is often the one that keeps us awake the longest.
It's the most disturbing, unsettling, but above all, surreal.
Whether it's a horror alternate reality game or a liminal space, that final scroll is not enough to turn off the phone and put yourself to sleep; you always need at least one more, just to reassure yourself that the world outside still exists, that people are still having fun and partying, that the monsters we fear are safely trapped behind a screen, unable to harm us.
This book is a collection of horror stories, mostly with a surreal background-stories that could be told on Instagram or TikTok, maybe shot and produced with professional editing software, or maybe recorded on a phone with a low-quality camera.
It doesn't really matter.
My hope and best wish is that this work can be seen as a healthy form of short-content consumptioni n a world that's increasingly fast-paced and dynamic, where attention spans are ever-dwindling, even a small step toward reading-however light and fleeting-can be meaningful.
A kind of brainrot to fight brainrot: consumed in a way and in a format that forces the mind to engage just enough to heal the damage caused by the online contents.
Horror is a literary genre that has accompanied humanity since ancient times.
Every civilization has had its own legends and stories that frightened listeners and readers alike.
But the beauty of the genre lies in its ability to constantly reinvent itself-in every era, age, and culture.
