This book was based in part on The History of Amador County, California, Thompson and West, Oakland, 1881 - especially Chapter XIX, -Rancheria Murders-. Certain historical details have been altered to... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The book is about a historical event that took place in Amador County which is about an hour south East of Sacramento, CA. It leads up to what is known as the Rancheria Massacre, the bloodiest encounter between California Mexicans and immigrant "gringos" who disrupted their lives. In 1855, about a dozen displaced Californians, most of them Mexicans, revolted. In one day they killed six people and robbed several Chinese mining camps in and about Lower Rancheria. It's interesting historical trivia. I actually grew up not far from the site so it was a bit intriguing to me. I first read this book almost 10 years while in High School, when Ms. Guthrie was our High School Spanish Teacher. If you like history, like the gold mining area, it's well worth the read.
