In drafting this book, I thought back to when I was writing The Spirit of Willingness, where I described some of the accomplishments of the 77th Special Forces Group, Airborne (77 SFGA) during the hot Cold War. I told of the inspiration that provided my drafting and two past covert missions in Burma. In this book, there were challenges and losses that Operational Detachments 903 and 901 encountered in conducting unconventional warfare. The 77th SFGA didn't exist all that long, but they accomplished missions of benefit to the US government and established a training center in Vietnam before being redesignated the 7th Special Forces Group, Airborne, Fort Bragg, NC. In this fictional story, Major Lars Larsen is given a mission where he doesn't see victory for the oppressed but cries for the depressed people of Burma. Later, he will carry on the fight for freedom while assigned to another organization. In a hotel flower shop, he meets the wife of a former member of his unit, the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, and his life changes. Still, Major Lars Larsen must prove his intestinal fortitude in a mission that proves to be his last.
