Continuing the story begun in At Home in Lansing: Maurice Leonard Reed was born in 1891 and grew up in the village of Beulah in northwestern Michigan. He graduated from Benzie Academy in 1914 and attended Michigan Agricultural College, later known as Michigan State University. He married Ruby Marie Chase in 1918 and they settled in Lansing, Michigan, where Maurice worked as an attendance officer for the Lansing School System. During the summer he took his family on camping trips throughout Michigan and the western United States. Besides camping and fishing, he loved to work with his hands, evidenced by his experimentation with leather and sheepskins. He loved to cook (and eat ) and wrote of his struggle to lose weight. These are his journals.
