Don't stop at the black and white color wheel . . . .

Once I got over the fact that there is a line drawing (black & white) of a color wheel, with the names of the colors printed around it . . . I decided that this is an extremely informative book. I'm used to quilting books that dazzle with color on every page - but not this one. There is a mid section of 12 or 15 pgs. with gorgeous quilts, and a description by each of why the quilt "works". This book has well written explanations and drawings of balance, proportion, hues, tints, shapes, etc. and how each of these make us "feel" when used in different ways. Wolfrom is very, very detailed and thorough in the steps of planning a landscape quilt - from conception of an idea (she suggests excersizes to learn personal preference) to various forms of quilting the finished product to give it more impact. When I talked myself past that black and white color wheel, I decided this is an excellent book. A book to learn by, not to drool over. Color in the wheel (and a catchier cover) would have earned it 5 stars.
