Riveting Plot and Characters

I found the characterization to be absolutely wonderful and regardless of what I'm reading, that is my strictest criteria for a great read. As the plot unfolded and caught me up more and more, I was equally drawn in by the development of the people involved and found myself wanting more even as I turned the last page.

imaginative

This book is a very good book and since I live 5 minutes from the Naval Acedmy It gave me a good impression of how life is in the Navy and on a ship. I think that the writing was pretty good but not great. the imagery that can see is very visual in this book along with another thatbis like this one "The Perfect Storm". Now that is one heck of a good book but I will not go into that because we are not talking about it here and now.

MUST READ ACTION NOVEL

I don't know yet if this guy has written anything else, but if he has, I'm getting it! This is one of those books that makes you want to skip words to get to the next page, but at the same time makes you want to read every single one so you dont miss anything! Not only was this book as good as any Tom Clancy novel, the humor that McFadden has added introduces an element not seen often enough in the Clancy novels. I could be caught up in the action of a moment when one of the characters says a line that you just know someone said for real in a similar situation somewhere that makes you burst out laughing. Can't wait for the sequel/next book from this guy!

Landing Party-A Suspenseful, Great Read

Landing Party by TJ McFadden was a five star read. Although this book is fictional, the plot was increadibly life-like due to the author's personal experience as a military man. This is a must read for those who like Tom Clancy or those who are into adventures relating to international military conflict. If Hollywood is watching, this will be a blockbuster movie some day. Can't wait for McFadden's next effort.

A yarn that will hold you spellbound!

"Landing Party" is a navy story with action, intrigue, believability, and especially important: authenticity. It's set aboard a modern guided-missile destroyer operating under today's conditions. The heros are ordinary sailors---not the usual ship's leaders, not the overly-ambivious captain, not the intriguing female gunnery officer, not the female hiliocopter pilot, not the CIA agent, not even the dead Libyan officer. Especially commendable, interesting, and readable is the dialogue---in this book, sailors talk like sailors really do talk. Many genuine navy terms are used, snf any needing translations are almost always explained in the next sentence. When, but a few hundred words into the story, all hands are ordered to general quarters, you read what is actually said in such announcements, not some hokey summation. During an assignment to retrive a defecting Libyan officer, an accident destroys the rescue team. Facing the dread of the fast-approaching deadline set by terrorists, it is members of the ship's crew---not the ship's officers---who successfully carry out the hazardous mission. Among the many excellently-written, truly thrilling scenes is the final climatic shootout, starting on page 328---a classic of authentic navy talk and action. The author---Timothy Joseph McFadden---knows what he's writing about. He's a former Navy seaman who served aboard comparable navy ships. As his shipboard career progressed, he became a military journalist. While this is his first published novel, his writings include many published articles about ships, several war games, and two other novels in preparation. The book, "Landing Party," is accurately summarized by the author in these words, "If you want to read about the good and the bad, the slackers and the hard chargers, the navy when seen from the deckplates up---this book is for you."
