PrefaceI sat for many nights, wondering how to word the preface for this book. There were many starts, many of them discarded because none of them said what I wanted. So here goes... I started writing poetry as a teen. I did create an anthology, but eventually left it in Jamaica when I migrated to the USA. For many years I felt as if I was enclosed and empty. Feeling like I was in a little box...afraid to venture...not knowing how to be me. There were so many things that I felt capable of and wanted to do, but was just not ready. Well, finally in early 2008, I was... free. Being free was so... freaking free. It was great. It was awesome. It was... freedom at last... And I took wings like a phoenix, continually rising and soaring to new adventures, new territories, no longer afraid to be me...I wrote these during the last five years. In which time I also wrote a book, took care of my kids and still worked the nine to five grind. The only thing that was missing from my life was the ever so elusive...love; which I eventually found. But... that's another book. Sonia Valencia Singh
