ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Once upon a time, a beautiful, intelligent little Jewish girl lived in the city of Lwow with her parents. Her name was Nusia and her days were spent peacefully. That's how this story could start if it were a fable, but Nusia Stier de Gotlib's series of unexpected events is real: in 1939, the Russian army invaded the city where she lived; after the Russians came the Germans, and then the hell of the ghetto. To save herself and her family, Nusia finds herself forced to adopt a false identity: hiding, lying, forgetting who she was, and behaving like a pious Catholic young lady allow her to survive, and allow her memoirs to reach us.

The Girl and Her Double is a story of fighting for life when death lurks on every corner; a deep, moving work that chooses fiction to speak about reality. The irresistible strength of the protagonist, her integrity and the love she feels for her family are depicted by Alejandro Parisi with talent and emotion. The author states that when he found out about the publication of The Girl and Her Double, he called Nusia: "We both got very excited. As always when we talk about the book, we ended up accusing each other. In the end, we agreed that we are both guilty: she for having lived, and me for writing about it."
