Book Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

The new novel from Argentinian author Alan Pauls, winner of the Herralde Prize 2003. A story about solitude and the frantic pace of life in the Internet era.

He's not thinking about moving, but he looks for apartments that are for rent. He reads advertisements and visits occupied houses, a fleeting intruder in other people's lives. He doesn't need anything (and is exasperated by technology), but he wanders around on the internet buying gadgets, old things, embalmed insects, for the joy of getting involved in other people's lives.

But, what happens to Savoy--a quiet fifty-something who's fond of harmless connections--when he crosses paths with Carla, a happy thirty-something, with no attachments, who travels from country to country taking care of houses, pets, maraijuana plants? Which of those two worlds will change, will be illuminated, go crazy with the impact?

Between trips, swimming pools, and digital deliriums, The Half Ghost explores a superstition that persists to this day: the idea that somewhere there is something, someone, that's perfect for us.
