Book Overview

Favel Farrington meets Roc Pendorric on the idyllic Mediterranean island of Capri, where she was raised and lives with her father. Roc sweeps her off her feet, taking her from her home by an emerald sea to the ancient family home of the Pendorrics, in Cornwall. His sister and her family await them with open arms, welcoming young Favel. She is the much anticipated Bride of Pendorric, a name that amuses and flatters her.

The castle is beautiful in its way, but the atmosphere is foreboding. Roc's twin nieces begin watching her carefully; even the stones in the courtyard seem to have eyes. On the walls hang portraits of two other Brides of Pendorric--one of them Roc's mother--who died both young and tragically. Favel's fear increases as Roc seems to be growing more and more distant. Has her courtship and marriage been just a deception?

Soon Favel can no longer dismiss as accidents the strange things happening to her. Someone is trying to kill her and she must confront the very real dangers that surround her.

A Good Victoria Holt Novel

As a fan of Victoria Holt novels, this one is quite good. The characters are more diverse than in some of her other novels, and the romantic plot is set up well. I also enjoyed the way the Cornish culture was tied into the plot. As with all of the Holt novels, it is a good mystery with adventure and romance. A great weekend read for a hopeless romantic.

The Most Suspenseful Victoria Holt Novel!

Favel has lived her whole life on an isolated island with her artist father. She falls in love with a man from Cornwall, marries him, and goes to Cornwall with him. Once there, at his estate of Pendorric, she learns of the previous wives of the owners: they have died mysteriously at a young age. She fears, with good reason, she is the next. This one is different from the other Holt novels for two reasons. The first is that it takes place I modern times, and second, it mentions locations from other Holt novels. This one is probably the most thrilling and suspenseful of all of Victoria Holt's!

Suspenseful & exciting!!!!

This was my second Victoria Holt book. I found it to be as extremely exciting as the first one. It kept my on my toes til the very end!!!!

More Mystery than Romance Novel...

This book was recommended to me because I had read Mistress of Mellyn and loved it. This is the best Holt book! The ending is such a surprise. I couldn't put this book down! Don't be scared off because it says it is a romance because I am a huge Mary Higgins Clark fan and this was almost like her books.
