Book Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A mind-blowing journey through the American Continent's landscape and history, as well as their fatal mirror, European culture.

"A solid and creative novel that transcends mere anecdote and, at times, even twists it." --Juan Pablo Bertazza, La Naci?n

Paris, 1889. The city prepares for the World's Fair, and opulent Argentina participates with a magnificent French-style pavilion, not knowing that a Belgian adventurer nearby intends to showcase a group of Ona natives he captured in Tierra del Fuego as if they were wild animals in a cage, and present them as "Patagonian cannibals."

One of them, the young Kalapatke, manages to flee. And wandering under the shadow of the recently erected Eiffel Tower, he meets Karl, a young anarchist who joined in its construction. Together they embark on a peculiar odyssey around Europe and the American territories, a homecoming full of adventures and dangers that expose the misery and contradictions of a century now ending and of one that just begun.

The Cage of the Onas is Carlos Gamerro's new novel. Once again, he resorts to his amazing stylistic and literary repertoire to recount a mind-blowing journey through the American Continent's landscape and history, and that of their fatal mirror, European culture.
