Kanji recognition and recreation is an integral part of achieving proficiency in Japanese. However, it is difficult to determine where to start, what to focus on, and how to go about tracking your progress. That is where this book comes in. This book contains all 1,026 kanji of the Kyoiku kanji list which is a subset of the greater Joyo kanji list. The Kyoiku kanji list contains all of the kanji that are considered mandatory learning for students in Japanese grade school broken down by grade level. There are 80 kanji learned in the first grade, 160 in second grade, 200 in third, 200 in fourth, 185 in fifth, 181 in sixth, and an additional 20 kanji that were added to the list of mandatory learning as of the 2020 academic year due to their use in prefecture names. This brings us to a grand total of 1,026 kanji. By making your way through this book and using the lines accompanying each kanji, you will be sure that you have encountered and studied every single kanji that a Japanese student would study from fourth through sixth grade. The value of this book lies in its versatility . Do you want to write out example sentences or vocab words using each kanji? You can do that. Would you rather make a list of all the possible readings for each kanji? Go right ahead. Do you learn best by creating and noting down mnemonics for remembering each kanji? There is room for that too. This notebook allows you to capitalize on whichever methods work best for you. With that having been said, this book is not intended as a be-all end-all study guide. It does not contain the readings, meanings or the stroke order of the kanji . It is intended as a supplementary resource as you make your way through each kanji. It can serve as a progress marker and pseudo-checklist to make sure that you have covered each of the Kyoiku kanji before eventually advancing to the final 1,110 kanji of the Joyo kanji list that are learned in seventh, eighth, and ninth grade. Helpful Learning Tips: Remember, just like with English (or any native language), children normally learn countless words before learning to read. In a similar manner, it is advantageous to learn vocabulary and then learn which kanji are associated with those words. In this way, kanji reading will come more naturally and will be continually reinforced through repeated viewing. You will also notice patterns in the kanji and discover what works best for you as a learner. Rather than memorizing lists of potential readings for each kanji without context, it is a completely viable study method to simply familiarize yourself with each of the kanji and their components and then grow your mental list of their readings as you see them naturally occur in new vocabulary. Again, while this book does not contain the meanings or readings of the kanji, it is an excellent resource as you build a solid foundation and familiarity with what is considered to be one of the most difficult parts of the Japanese language for new learners to pick up.
