Knowing the Apostles' Creed

Knowing The Whole Truth written by Dr. D. James Kennedy is a presentation of the Apostle's Creed and a good presentation about what the words should mean when recited. All Christians should understand the meaning of the Creed and I think the author does a good job of defining the terms and the theological reasons the terms are used. I believe God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. Dr. Kennedy concentrates on the words of Maker of Heaven and earth. To place carefully at the start the plain meaning of scripture: God as creator and always existent. Those who argue old earth will not like this chapter of the book. Also included is God's prerogative to determine what is right and wrong. I believe in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord. Dr. Kennedy stresses Jesus Christ our Lord. He breaks down the terms Jesus as man, a physical being who was physically born and lived on this earth. The Christ or Messiah, the one fore told in prophecy- not one to be considered as an ordinary man but also God: To have two natures. Our Lord is a title or statement of acceptance of the rule of Jesus as leader of one's life. Conceived by the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary. This chapter is titled the virgin Birth. The author expresses the theological importance of accepting the supernatural nature of the birth of Jesus' birth and God's capability to overrule the natural order of things. Dr. Kennedy goes through a long list of implications of the virgin birth and the theology of those who deny the truth. I believe Jesus suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. Here the author concentrates on the phrase suffered under Pontius Pilate. Jesus knew not sin but became sin. The words meaning Jesus lived among sinners but did not sin Himself. Jesus lived on earth thirty-three years without going against the Father's will. Yet he was judge by human court to be guilty and suffered a punishment only a sinner would deserve. He was executed and died because of the execution and was buried. I believe Jesus descended into Hell. Here the author and I depart ways I believe Jesus came to preach in hell. This book mentions no such thing. The author stresses Jesus taking the Old Testament Saints came two the believers' part of Sheol and took them up to Heaven. Dr. Kennedy stresses in this chapter on the reality of Hell. What is discussed in the book I have no problem with- I just believe more. I believe the third day Jesus arose again from the dead. Dr. Kennedy stresses Jesus resurrection was no mere spiritual coming to life in spirit but bodily. The author stresses the evidence of the event. Jesus conquered death because he did not deserve the consequence of sin because He sinned not. I believe Jesus ascended into heaven. Part of the exaltation of Jesus and marks the end of the earthly mission. The humiliation of God is over and Jesus is exalted in heaven. Jesus can now intercede for us in our prayers. I believe Jesus sitteth on the right
