First and foremost, do not let the title of this book fool you. Yes, the Chandra that I know is sunshine, complex, rainbows, serious, optimistic, and brilliant. She is a highly educated, experienced, down-to-earth therapist-counselor and coach who continually works on her own personal recovery and is committed to becoming the most authentic person she can be.Chandra has devoted her life and energy to helping the homeless, providing support for the addict and alcoholic. Working with young people is one of her passions, and they love her for it because she under?stands them in ways I, and most people, cannot. Now I'm going to tell you why this book spoke to me personally and professionally. Over three decades ago I co-founded a training program for counselors, therapists, and psychologists and later invited the general public to participate. I called it P.E.E.R. (Primary Emotional Energy Recovery). This program employed more than a half-dozen therapeutic approaches to help men and women access deep, buried, bottled-up emotions. We called it "emotional release work." I taught thousands how to use a truly holistic approach to working with individ?uals, groups, families, and couples. This work was highly experiential, based on the fact that memories, traumas, and abandon?ments lie buried in our cells, tissues, and muscles. To heal, we have to let our bodies speak openly, tap into repressed emotions and energies, and recover from the addictions that keep us numbed to our anger, grief, and joy. The techniques we employed didn't have a formal name thirty-five years ago, but by the late '80s and '90s it became a recognized branch of psychology: Body Centered Therapy. So why am I taking this trip down memory lane and writing about me? Because this know-it-all hippy chick reminds me of my younger self. Not only is she is avidly interested in and passionate about pulling together every?thing there is to know about healing, recovery, and the mind/body relationship, but she has managed to synthesize it all into this down-to-earth and imminently readable book that anyone, of any back?ground, will find useful. If I had this book thirty years ago, it would have been required reading for my students and trainees, or anyone for that matter who wants to take their healing deeper. It is also a spiritual road map into pain and joy, both of which Chandra is no stranger to, as a result of the inner work she has done.If you want to know about anger, sadness, joy, love, recovery, nutrition, inner voices, the power of awareness, self-care ... oh hell, I could go on ... I suggest you buy this book, and pass it along freely to your friends and colleagues. I'm delighted to have read it.John LeeAuthor of The Flying Boy: Healing the Wounded Man and The Half-Lived Life: Overcoming Passivity and Rediscovering Your Authentic Self (www.JohnLeeBooks.com)
