I used this book along with "The Knitting Stitch Bible" to learn how to knit from charts, as written instructions can sometimes be poorly written or have mistakes in them. Of all the knitting books I've looked at, this is the only one that shows you how to make Dorset buttons out of yarn, which look very nice. The beginning shows you how to knit on the bias, chevron knitting, and so forth. Towards the end you get a short tutorial on designing your own sweaters with a color gallery for inspiration. Unfortunately, the editor doesn't talk about fitting garments, only boxy, rectangular shapes are shown, reminiscent of the late 1980's and early 1990's. If you like those kind of sweaters then these are the chapters for you. There is also one small shoulder bag pattern that you can knit. The book lists childrens, womens, and mens measurements. Unfortunately, the largest bust size listed for the ladies is 42 inches, so if you are plus size and don't know how to do the math to adjust for your larger size, you are out of luck. What I mean by that is that you will either need to look at an instruction book for fitting and adjusting garments and/or get the help of an advanced knitter. The stitch patterns are varied. There is something for everyone here. Admittedly, I agree with the other reviewer that the editor didn't pick the prettiest sweaters to showcase. I tend to favor semi-fitted garments with a romantic flair. However, I did like some of the designer sweaters that were shown for inspiration.
