A fun book for all knitters

I was attracted to this book because I wanted to make a scarf and was looking for some ideas. The book has an attractive cover and when I looked through it in my local store, I found new stitches and some really interesting scarf patterns. It also has some very useful information that is great for all levels of knitters. The introductory sections cover basics such as selection of needles and yarn for a project, a glossary of terms, and how to check your guage. There's an illustrated section on casting on and casting off which is very basic and then there are sections on design, calculating number of stitches, and how to fix mistakes. There are also discussions of knitting with more than one color, how to make a pom-pom, and how to fringe a scarf. These sections are short but very well done. The core of the book contains patterns for 16 scarves and includes color photos plus suggestions and pictures of different yarns that can be substituted for each pattern. The stitches run from the very basic all knit beginner level to the very advanced challenging level. There is something for everyone here. I have completed one scarf using a pattern in this book but substituting a similar yarn since the specific yarn in the pattern comes from England and is very expensive. That's the only drawback with these patterns - the actual yarns are not the types you can get easily in the big box craft stores. I recommend this book for anyone who likes to knit scarves. It would make a great gift for a beginner. Having learned to knit by making scarves, I found that there was lot of new ideas for me to try. The finished products will make great gifts too.

My First Knitting Book

This was my first knitting book purchase and I absolutely love it. Not only is the book a different and neat shape, but the patterns are easy to follow and there are some helpful tips and know-hows included. I like how the book isn't too big so I am able to carry it almost anywhere. I have already completed 3 scarves out of the book in a matter of 1 month! I recommend anyone to purchase this book.

I Can't Believe I'm Knitting These Patterns!

If you can knit, purl, increase and decrease but nothing more (like myself) please try this book. I can't believe I am knitting the fan pattern. I have played with the lace pattern and getting a little better at it with every try. This book is perfect for me. I can take basic knitting skills and turn them into something pretty. Any yarn can be substituted as I only use synthetics. Learn "Fair Isle" or patterned knitting too. I have found the instructions and pictures to be very clear and helpful. I agree, this book is for the beginning or basic knitter (like myself) ready to branch out. I'm glad I purchased this book. It is helping me on the way to learn more knitting patterns and to become more confidant with my knitting.

Knit Scarves

Excellent diagrams, easy to follow directions. Author showed the same pattern knit with a variety of different yarns. Great choice!

Exactly what I needed

My friend and I are starting a little side business where we are selling custom designed scarves. This book was perfect for that. It gives great basic patterns for scarves and shows the stitches in various fancy yarns. If you are not a creative type who likes your end product to look exactly like the picture, don't buy this. If you like to try different yarns and be a little creative in your knitting, this is the perfect book for you.
