Gun powder made the traditional armor clad, sword weilding knight obsolete as the plate mail couldn't protect against even a single bullet and by the end of the Renaissance kings were no longer worried about raids on their castles, etc. It is still like Midevil times in some places in the country, but in town here we have what are called houses with one right next to the other. Sadly, it's still based on what immediate castle they're from. It was no longer the traditional stone entombed fort, it was wooden houses.
