For many, knowing the names of our ancestors, or how we fit into the Kirkup world, is more than enough. For others, there is a desire to know how and where our famlies lived.While many of the old homes have been lost, whether to neglect, age, or progress, a surprising number still stand. In some cases, the actual cottages of farm workers, for example, are still in use and have been converted into updated homes and vacation properties. In others, only the main house of a farm remains.Whether agricultural labourers, miners, engineers or farmers, many of our ancestors' homes, places of worship or places of employment survive from the 1700s and 1800s. This book hopes to give some insight into our shared history by highlighting places of historical interest to Kirkups.
