A war rages between two enemy tribes in the country of Abyssinia in Africa. King Zemen of the Amhara tribe wishes to bring back the Aksumite Empire, the empire Abyssinia was during its golden age, and become its emperor. In order to bring about his dream he must first conquer the land of the Tigray tribe and after, the rest of the country. However he cannot find the Tigrayan king Amanuel and his secret army. After an interrogation with one of the enemy generals he sends his bastard son, Nebiyou, and his friends, Yared, a priest, and Mekonnen, an assassin for the Crown, to the city of Zalambesa to find the enemy king and report back to him

The three men venture into enemy territory where along the way they meet and befriend a beautiful thief named Yohanna and together they travel on a perilous journey to the great city. Along the way they face many threat including those of the supernatural. However the greatest of challenges would be the ones found within themselves and the actions they are forced to take for the sake of their country.
