Killian antrochoanal polyp: epidemiological and clinical aspects

The antrochoanal polyp or Killian polyp is a nasosinusal turbinate tumor that originates in the maxillary sinus and exits into the nasal cavity through the cavum, its etiopathogeny remaining unknown. Several hypotheses have been put forwardOur study is a retrospective descriptive approach to 50 cases collected in the ENT and cervico-facial surgery department of Farhat Hached University Hospital, Sousse, over a 9-year period from January 2007 to December 2015.The mean age of our patients was 27.5 years, with extremes of 10 and 67 years, and a frequency peak in the 20- and 25-year-old age range.Male predominance was observed, with a sex ratio of 2.57.The functional signs of appeal were variable. Nasal obstruction is the main symptom, with a rate of 92%. Rhinorrhea was the second most common functional sign (40%), followed by nocturnal snoring (16%) and epistaxis (14%).Diagnosis of antrochoanal polyps is essentially clinical. Endonasal surgery is the gold standard.
