Book Overview

"I've only dared to read it in the daylight." --Kaly Soto, Deputy Weekend Editor, the New York Times Book Review

Interesting Plot that Lacked Character Depth

A classic haunted house story that is a great read for a horror novice. The pacing was smooth and the plot managed to avoid predictability while paying homage to a traditional ghost story. What made the read average was the lack of character depth. Would’ve loved to see a wider range of character traits that went beyond superficial looks and gender stereotypes of a “modern feminist.”

Great all around read

It's weird saying that a horror book is a heartfelt read, but this one was for me. You could just tell how much the author cared about his characters, making it all the harder to allow such terrible things to happen to them. This was a well-written, enjoyable read with some great gruesome scenes. Just the right amount of detail to make you see and feel every last smash and gash. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a good horror or haunted house themed book.
